The Private Memoirs of Madame Du Hausset, are the memoirs of Nicole du Hausset, the lady's maid and confidante to Madame de Pompadour, the mistress of Louis XV of France. She had known Pompadour before the latter's introduction to the royal court, and was employed in 1747 as her lady's maid. The memoirs were first published in 1824 and are split into two books, the first is the secret memoirs of Louis XV and the second is the secret memoirs of Louis XVI, and of his wife Queen Marie Antoinette. The author was the widow of a nobleman but was not a rich person herself. She played an important role in the court, and was known for being loyal and dutiful.
